Preventing the Spread of Disease at Liberty
March 04, 2020
Dear Parents and Stakeholders,
While we do not have any reported cases of Coronavirus, discussions at the County Superintendents’ meeting last Friday included the issue of preparedness for dealing with a pandemic. I've asked the principals to communicate with all staff to require them to address and teach about hygiene practices that can help us limit exposure here at school. I stressed that we should be addressing our students 7 or 8 times a day about these practices and how they can make the difference between an epidemic in Liberty or preventing one.
I've also asked that we stress not practicing certain cultural behaviors until the current virus threat is deemed over. This includes handshakes, hugs, and generally keeping hands off of others and objects. I think one of the most powerful things that parents can do is to stress these same things at home. The following list was sent from the Tulsa Health Department and may provide a starting point for helping our students understand their parts in preventing the spread of disease.
Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
Avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose with unwashed hands
Avoid close contact with individuals who are sick
Stay home when you are sick. The CDC recommends that individuals remain home for at least 24 hours after you are no longer have a fever (i.e. chills, feeling warm, flushed appearance).
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then immediately discard the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Take any anti-viral medication prescribed to you as instructed.
